Walking Panther - signed Bugatti - Limited Bronze Sculpture

The Walking Panther by Rembrandt Bugatti is one of the most famous animal depictions of the 20th century. This decorative bronze statue is a contemporary interpretation of this classic motif. This panther sculpture stays true to the original design but places a new visual emphasis due to a contemporary coloration. The Bugatti statue is placed on a simple bronze base and has a patina effect that creates an impactful colour progression of green and gold hues. The apparent classical motif thus gets heavily abstracted, yet this modern abstraction is exclusively reduced to the chromatic design level. The design of this bronze sculpture, which is exclusively limited to 20 pieces and serially numbered, stays true to Bugatti’s detailed, realistic implementation in every way. Rembrandt Bugatti (1884 - 1916) was an Italian artist who from early on specialised in animal depictions. In 1904, he created his bronze sculpture Walking Panther (Panthère marchant). Today, one of the first plaster models of the animal figurine can be found in the Musée d’Orsay in Paris. Numerous visits to the Parisian zoo provided the sculptor with a plethora of inspirations. Nowadays, his authentic animal figurines are particularly sought-after by collectors. In total, Rembrandt Bugatti created more than 300 different animal sculptures during his short life. He put an end to his own life in 1916 at the young age of 31.
