Art Deco Sculpture - Harlequin Dancer - signed Chiparus

This hand-painted composition of sculptures was designed by Demetre H. Chiparus during the first half of the 20th century. It provides an impressive glimpse into the Parisian revue theatre at the time. Clad in elaborately structured costumes, two Art Deco harlequin dancers display their artistic performance. The group of sculptures is painted by hand and placed on a beautiful, discreet marble base in cream and yellow hues. The highly detailed bronze figurines are only linked to the base by their feet, which gives the robust statues a certain levity. The slender dancers in their opulent costumes have a fascinating overall effect, which is not least due to the contrastive and yet harmonious choice of colours.
