Product description

"Figure of a Dancer - Contemporary Ballerina Sculpture - Degas"

Weight 7,8 kg
The "Arabesque Pencheé" is ranked among the most beautiful yet also most demanding figures in ballet. This figurine of a dancer gets into this rather difficult position and demonstrates how it should look in absolute perfection. "Arabesque" could be translated along the lines of "in the Arabian way". For this pose, the dancer stands on one leg and lifts the other with an extended knee upwards to the back. This position was named after Arabesque ornaments which recreate natural vines or foliage. The "Arabesque Pencheé" pose is a more difficult version of the Arabesque. In this position, the body is bent forwards while the legs are spread as wide as possible. A lot of training and an enormous amount of body control is necessary in order to master this pose.
Like all of the other bronze products in our shop, this exhibit is also cast by hand and subject to our strict quality guidelines. Furthermore, all our sculptures for sale are exclusively produced by using the lost wax technique.

However, the latter supported Degas' decision to devote his time to his art and even provided him with his first studio. Edgar Degas created numerous contemporary sculptures, but portraits, artworks and drawings are also among his works. On 27th September 1917, Edgar Degas died in Paris.
