Authentic depictions of animals in the way of hand-painted miniature bronzes were in great demand at the more than 80 Viennese bronze manufactories at the end of the 19th century. The main trademarks of those small animal figurines from the Vienna Bronze period are their lifelike design and the fact that they have been painted by hand. Naturally, every little detail of this Vienna Bronze peacock is also hand-painted. The numerous “eyes” on the front and the back of the peacock’s feathers have been applied one by one, which gives this small bronze figurine a special touch, additionally to its detailed surface structure.
