Originating from the missionary work in faraway lands, numerous exotic influences made their way to Europe during the 19th century. Those influences were extremely fascinating for the people in Central Europe and were therefore also replicated in the arts. A lot of Vienna Bronze pieces were created in the context of this exotic art discourse. Thematically, the bronze manufactories focussed on the depiction of dark-skinned children, the so-called blackamoors, which were shown performing tasks of everyday life. One could say that they created a whole miniature world full of musicians, bands, social games and dancing couples. Among the most famous motifs of this category are the works Blackamoor Band, Blackamoor Couple at Coffee Table, Dancing Blackamoor Couple and the figurine Blackamoor Musicians. The Vienna Bronze figurine that is depicted here shows a little blackamoor boy who is trying to fish. His efforts seem to have paid off, as there is a big lobster in his basket. The detailed blackamoor figurine of the litte fisher boy has been lovingly painted by hand and endowed with the Bergmann stamp.

The production of our bronze figurines is subject to strict quality guidelines. All of the products in our assortment have been created by using the lost wax technique. They have been cast and refined by hand.

Vienna Bronze is the collective term for the popular small bronze sculptures that have been manufactured in numerous Viennese foundries during the late 19th and early 20th century. These miniature bronze sculptures became especially famous as decorative items during Germany’s “Gründerzeit”. Thematically, Vienna Bronze statues focus mostly on erotic scenes, human figurines of distant cultures (often people from the Orient, Indians or blackamoors), and imaginative depictions of animals.
