Johann Philipp Ferdinand Preiss was born on February 13, 1882. After the death of his parent's he became an ivory carver when he was 15. Ferdinand Preiss studied in Paris, France before he went back to Germany. He founded "Preiss & Kassler" in 1909 in Ritterstraße in Berlin, Germany. His ivory- bronze sculptures, he started to produce in Berlin in 1910, are very famous nowadays. Johann Philipp Ferdinand Preiss died in 1943. This year the company closed. The foundry was attacked by a bomb attack before the end of World War II.
