Contemporary Bronze Statue - Icarus´20 - signed Martin Klein

Do you know the myth of Daedalus and Icarus? It is without a doubt a tragic story. And yet, it again and again delivers interpretative material for the contemporary arts. In this case, the modern bronze statue by sculptor Martin Klein is an iconic portrayal of Icarus that is characterised by playful lines and an aesthetic sensuality. Klein's figurine is a recreated version of the mythological Icarus that shows an immaculate, tender body of a young man whose arms fluently turn into a set of opulent wings. His gaze is directed at the sky. The slight copper tone of the bronze particularly highlights the graceful male nude, which measures approximately 30 centimetres. The contemporary statue is accentuated by a green patina on individual parts, which are emphasised in the area of the wings and the hair of Icarus. With a seemingly playful effortlessness, the artist manages to create a complex figurine from bronze that harmoniously combines mythological storytelling with modern sculpting. The contemporary bronze figurine was placed on a discreet, dark marble base, which skillfully emphasises the stylised terrestrial globe on which Icarus seems to be floating.
