Edward McCartan Large-Scale Bronze - Diana with Hound

This patinated large nude sculpture was made by the American artist Edward McCartan.  It mirrors the graceful Ancient Roman goddess Diana, who stands for the hunt, moon and birthing,  with one of her hounds. Diana embodies strength and tension, while she holds strongly the hound on his leash. The lovely young mythological figure also has a bow in her hand, which is also a symbol for hunting. Although this is an attractive large sculpture, it is worked in detail with many filigree features. For example Diana's face expression or her hair as well seem very natural. The green patinated figure consists of 100% bronze and is signed by its creator Edward McCartan.

All of our sculptures are also suited for the laying-out of a garden area, where they after a while get a bronze typical patina by weather.

Edward McCartan, the artist who created this wonderful large piece of art, was born on August 16, 1879 in Albany and died at the age of 68. Already as a young boy, Edward McCartan started his creative career by drawing various pictures and eventually beginning to create plastics. He studied under many renowned sculptors such as Herbert Adams and Hermon Atkins MacNeil and worked several years for them. In 1907 he moved to Europe, where he attended different prestigious universities and refined his skills. Many of Edward McCartan’s works are inspired by Ancient mythology as well as ornaments and nature.
