This opulent Art Deco bronze sculpture depicts the mythological figure Icarus. This winged male erotic nude is characterised by a naturally designed, athletic physiognomy that is contrasted with the highly stylised shapes of the wings. The Icarus figurine stands on a bronze ball that is placed on a discreet marble base. This contemporary bronze sculpture skilfully combines the central artistic genres at the time. The Art Deco genre combines stylistic elements of Art Nouveau (vines and floral shapes) with central motifs of international functionalism (geometric shapes). This Art Deco bronze sculpture of Icarus assimilates those influences of the burgeoning modernity of the 1920s and thus presents an opulent piece of contemporary art. The production of our bronze figurines is subject to strict quality guidelines. All of the bronze figurines in our assortment are created via the lost wax technique and are cast and and refined by hand.

The character of  Icarus  has been a popular motif among artists for centuries. The main reason for this might be the tragic fate of this character: in Greek mythology, Icarus and Daedalus were imprisoned in the labyrinth of the minotaur by King Minos of Crete. In order to flee from the labyrinth, Daedalus created wings made of feathers, wood and wax for him and his son. Before their escape, Daedalus instructed his son Icarus not to fly too high or too low, or else the heat of the sun or the wetness of the ocean might break the wings. However, during the long flight, Icarus became reckless and flew too close to the sun. The wax in his wings melted and he fell into the sea where he died.
