The artist Ernst Barlach was born in 1870 in Wedel. In 1938 he died in Rostock. His Talent for creating and language was already noticed in the childhood. He got support to train it. Until the year 1891 Ernst Barlach attended the art university in Hamburg. Until the year 1895 he studied at the Dresden Art Academy. There he was the pupil of Robert Diez, who was a famous sculptor. In 1901 Ernst Barlach went back to his home town. There his creative phase was hesitant in the beginning. In 1906 the artist made a stay in Russia. After that he used the Russian impressions for his art works.
