Ernst Barlach studied at the Hamburg University and at the Dresden Art Academy. The artist experienced highs and lows in his life. He was informed by the wartime experiences. The human is always the central point in his art works. Ernst Barlach died on October 24, 1938 in Rostock, when he had a heart attack.
