Miguel Fernando Lopez—known professionally as Milo—was born 1955 in Lisbon’s storied Alfama quarter. His studies at the University of Lisbon’s Faculty of Fine Arts grounded him in classical techniques, while residencies in Barcelona and New York inspired a daring fusion of tradition and abstraction. Conceived on the Tagus, Crafted in Bronze

Working in his riverside atelier, Milo modeled the original clay maquette with meticulous attention to the figure’s backward lean and uplifted gaze. Every nuance—from the flex of the hands against the ground to the tilt of the head—was perfected before the form was entrusted to Atelier da Ribeira, Lisbon’s premier bronze foundry. There, the ancient lost-wax process immortalized Milo’s vision, and a custom patination bath imparted rich sepia and graphite tones, infusing the figure with warmth and depth.
