Sneaking Panther - Modern Animal Bronze - sign. A. Stevens

“Sneaking Panther” is a modern animal bronze sculpture that is characterized by the extraordinary connection between the bronze and the marble base. The motive is a sneaking panther that is elegant and smooth in his movements while it is walking down a lowering area, the asymmetric marble base. Even the bronze is designed lightly abstract but the natural anatomy of the cat is still clearly visible with a nice two coloured surface. “Sneaking Panther” was created after an idea of Alfred Stevens and is made from 100% finest bronze material. The pedestal is made of marble and the whole animal sculpture got perfected with the signature of Stevens.

As all of the bronze products in our shop, this exhibit is hand-cast in our own foundry and subject to our strict quality inspections throughout the entire process of fabrication. All of our sculptures are exclusively compounded with the help of lost-wax casting.

Alfred Stevens was a British sculptor who was born on January 18, 1818 in Dorset. He was the son of a painter and therefore got in touch with the subject of art at a very young age. Because of his talent he studied art at the École des Beaux-Arts in Prais. In 1833 he left home and went to several places in Europe like Rome, Venice and Milano and also worked one year for the artist Bertel Thorvaldsen. Back in England, Stevens started to teach at the “School of Design” and was the head of a bronze manufacture. Later he was awarded with the contract of building the Wellington Monument inside the St. Paul’s Cathedral. Creating this monument almost influenced the whole life of Stevens who died on Mai 1, 1875 for unknown reasons at his studio in London.
