"Large Sculpture - Little Dancer of Fourteen Years by Edgar Degas"
"Little Dancer Aged Fourteen" is one of the most famous works of the sculptor and painter Edgar Degas. It is among the three or four most celebrated sculptures of the modern age. Due to the realistic and natural representation of the young dancer the figure was once seen as the counterpart of the sculpture of the 19th century. The sculpture impresses with its hyper-realistic representation: the natural colours, the real hair, the tutu, and the ballet shoes displays a verism that has no equal.

Both a painter and sculptor, Degas enjoyed capturing female dancers and played with unusual angles and ideas around centering. His work influenced several major modern artists, including Pablo Picasso. Degas died in Paris in 1917.
