On January 2, 1870 the artist Ernst Barlach was born in Wedel, Holstein. On October 24, 1938 he died in a hospital because of a heart attack he had. His bronzes and wood sculptures made him very famous. His artistic style is to find in realism and expressionism. His father worked as doctor and he supported the creative and linguistic talent of Ernst Barlach. The artist worked as sculptor and author. Ernst Barlach passed art studies in Hamburg and Dresden. Until 1985 he was the student of Robert Diez, who was a famous sculptor. Trips to foreign countries like Paris and Russia influenced his work.
