This Art Nouveau bronze statue for sale depicts the figure of Aquarius and at the same time connects it to its mythological roots. Due to being a star sign and a constellation, Aquarius is a popular motif. Auguste Moreau reinterpreted this motif. One interpretation of Aquarius is rooted in the mythological character of Deucalion. When Zeus wanted to wipe out humanity, he evoked a world-wide flood. Deucalion built a boat for himself and his wife Pyrrha in order to survive this flood. Subsequently, the both of them became the progenitors of all of humanity. Concordant with this story, the Aquarius of this bronze statue holds up a boat with both arms. He represents both the stormy sea and Deucalion at the same time, as both seem to be under a lot of pressure, which is mirrored in the face of Aquarius.

Auguste Moreau was the son of the famous painter Jean-Baptiste Moreau. He was born in the beautiful city of Paris, France, in 1834. With his graceful style, the artist created many playful and imaginative sculptures. His first exhibition took place in 1861. The artist A. Moreau died in 1917.
