Product description

"Modern Art - Inclined Head of a Woman, signed Wilhelm Lehmbruck"

Weight 7,5 kg

The Modern Art bronze sculpture "Inclined Head of a Woman" of Wilhelm Lehmbruck shows the head of a woman and a part of her shoulders until her breast. The woman's head is slightly bent forwards and she has kept her eyes closed. She seems sad and thoughtful and a little humble. The bust is made of 100 % bronze and is signed by Lehmbruck at the reverse side. The female head is worked in detail and especially her hair seems very natural and filigree. Also the bones of her shoulders and her collarbones are made vividly. The Modern Art bronze bust is actually part of Lehmbrucks's other sculpture "Standing Female Figure" that he made in 1910. The anonymous woman's head will give each collection the impress of timid melancholic beauty.

As all of the bronze products in our shop, this exhibit is hand-cast in our own foundry and subject to our strict quality inspections throughout the entire process of fabrication. All of our sculptures are exclusively compounded with the help of lost-wax casting.

The pretty bronze of Modern Art "Inclined Head of a Woman" is a work of the German sculptor and graphic artist Wilhelm Lehmbruck who was born in 1881 in Meiderich near Duisburg. His sculptures mainly show the human body in a situation of sorrow and misery and hide individual marks. Beside Käthe Kollwitz and Ernst Barlach he belongs to the most important German sculptors of the first half of the 20th century. His father advised him to attend the craft school in Düsseldorf and 1901 he started to study at the Arts Academy in the same city and became a pupil of Karl Jannsen. After he finished his studies he became member of various artist groups and had many exhibitions in European cities, for example in Paris and Berlin. He committed suicide in 1919.
