Joan of Arc, also known as "The Maid of Orléans" (1412- May 30, 1431). She is well-known as Catholic saint and as a national heroine. The Maid of Orléans guided the French soldiers against the English during the Hundreds Year's War. The young woman died on May 30, 1431 at the age of 19. After the Burgundies caught her she was sold to England. There the ecclesiastical court burned Joan of Arc at the stake. Pope Callixtus III reviewed the execution 25 years later and declared her as a martyr. He came to decision that the Maid of Orléans was innocent.
