"Tribute to the "Nanas" - Pop Art - Fiberglass - Martin Klein"
Weight | 2,8 kg |
The adjoining sculpture is a fiberglass figure in the style of the famous sculptures by the French artist Niki de Saint Phalle, the so-called “Nanas”. The tribute to those sculptures came from Martin Klein. Nanas are sculptures by French artist Niki de Saint Phalle (1930-2002). Inspired by the pregnancy of her friend Clarice Price, the wife of American artist Larry Rivers, she began to use her artwork to consider archetypal female figures in relation to her thinking on the position of women in society. Her artistic expression of the proverbial everywoman were named 'Nanas'. All of our sculptures were produced in a strictly limited edition.
“Nana” is an ambiguous term from the French for a modern, self-confident, sexy and wicked female figure. For the first time their oversized woman sculptures were exhibited in October 1965 in Paris. The life-affirming, cheerful, colourful, mostly dancing, often life-size, thick “Nanas” run through her future work.
Martin Klein (* 1979 in Bischofswerda, Germany) is a young passionate artist from Saxony. He studied art and works alongside his studies as a successful painter and sculptor. His repertoire is broad and varied, ranging from abstract oil paintings to modern sculptures with humorous and sometimes erotic motifs. His work has been presented in a number of regional and national exhibitions Klein.
