Product description

"Modern Bronze Figure - Dreaming Woman - 1912 - Ernst Barlach"

Weight 11,1 kg

The bronze figure „Dreaming Woman“ in German „Träumendes Weib“ with the signature of Ernst Barlach has the source of motive in the year 1912. Totally relaxed the woman lies in leant position and her hands rest in her lap. The left hand lies about the right one. Her head rests stabilized and her mouth is lightly open. The eyes are closed and her dreams are only to guess. The right foot cross over the left one, while she comes to rest. The folds of her dress are wonderful to identify with the result that the whole sculpture gives a fluid expression. In different artistic ranges the motive was used the last evening before the First World War. There is no fear to see at the female figure. The sculpture was made of 100 percent bronze and fixed on a flat base.

For the sculptures in our shop, it is only used the lost-wax casting. The cast of the figures is realising in hand-work. We care for the compliance of all strict quality inspections to give you an exhibit in high quality.

The art works of Ernst Barlach, who was born on January 2, 1870 in Wedel, are often to find in many large museums and collections. Since 1910 he exhibited periodically at the German group of artists “Berliner secession”. In 1915 Ernst Barlach got a draft to Landsturm. The bad events of the war flow in his sculptures. The living conditions and the individual were often the theme of his works. Also the experiences of his trips to Russia and France influenced the creation of sculptures and paintings. Furthermore he worked as author and wrote many dramas. Ernst Barlach died in Rostock on October 24, 1938.
