Demetre Haralamb Chiparus was born as the son of Saveta and Haralamb on September 19, 1886 in Dorohoi, Romania and is a well-known sculptor of the Art Deco, who studied, lived and worked in Paris, France. At the beginning of his career D. H. Chiparus made sculptures close to the Realism. Chiparus also invented the so-called Chryselephantines- sculptures made of ivory and bronze. His work was influenced by several sources of inspirations such as the Russian dancers, especially ballet dancers, but also by the French theatre and the French fashion. Another influence was his interest in Egyptian culture. Almost all his sculptures, except the series of children he made at the beginning of his career, were influenced by one or more of those sources of inspiration. The great Art Deco artist died on January 22, 1947.
